Our Journey to Motherhood: A New Beginning

Hello and welcome to my blog! I’m so excited to share our journey into motherhood with you, and I truly hope it encourages those who might be on a similar path. My name is Lexie, and this blog is all about our experience of trying to conceive, navigating fertility challenges, receiving diagnosis of cleft lip and palate, and the emotional rollercoaster that comes with it.

My husband Colin and I were married in September 2023, after being together for five years. We have a sweet 4-year-old Goldendoodle named Bear who’s been the center of our world. But now, we’re thrilled to be expecting our first baby in May 2025! This little miracle is the result of a journey we didn’t expect but are so grateful for. I can’t wait to share all the highs and lows that led us to this point—and the lessons we’ve learned along the way.

What to Expect From Future Posts

I will be opening up about our fertility struggles, our emotional moments, and the medical journey we’ve been on. I want to connect with other hopeful parents and offer a place where we can learn and grow together. Here’s a little preview of what’s coming up in the next few posts:

1. The Start of Our Fertility Journey

In the first few months of trying, we faced some unexpected challenges, like unreliable ovulation tests and uncertainty about why things weren’t happening as quickly as we’d hoped. I’ll share the frustrations we faced and the moment we decided to seek help from a fertility clinic.

2. Our Fertility Clinic Experience

After almost a year of uncertainty, we finally made the decision to visit the Iowa City Fertility Clinic. This step came after a recommendation from someone I work with, and it was a game changer for us. I'll go into detail about the tests we underwent, including ultrasounds, sperm tests, and more. It was overwhelming at times, but we found incredible support along the way.

3. Medical Testing and Discovering the Roadblocks

Some of the tests we had to go through were uncomfortable and emotionally draining. But they gave us valuable answers. From ultrasound tests to the painful HSG procedure, I’ll share how we learned about my blocked fallopian tube, and low progesterone and how it shaped our fertility plan moving forward.

4. Ovulation, Medication, and Hope

After months of trying, we finally started treatment with Letrozole, a medication designed to help me ovulate. I’ll talk about how it worked for us and the emotional rollercoaster of testing for ovulation, scanning my own ovaries, and getting my hopes up every month.

5. The Day We Found Out

After what felt like an eternity of trying, there was finally a moment when everything changed. In this post, I’ll walk you through the day we found out we were pregnant—the relief, joy, and pure disbelief. It was a long and windy road, but it was worth it.

6. Our Anatomy Ultrasound- the halfway mark of our pregnancy

The day of our anatomy scan was one we had anticipated for weeks. This milestone marked the halfway point of pregnancy—a chance to see our little one and confirm their growth and health. While we were filled with excitement, we also carried the natural worries that come with this stage of the journey. During the scan, we were overjoyed to see our baby moving and thriving. However, we also learned something unexpected: our baby has a unilateral cleft lip. While it wasn’t news we had expected, we’ve embraced this as part of our story and are already preparing to support our little one with all the love and care they’ll need.

Why I’m Sharing This Story...

Our journey to this point hasn’t been easy, and it’s taken a lot of patience and hope. But in sharing our story, I hope to connect with others who are navigating the ups and downs of fertility and anomalies. Whether you're currently trying to conceive, are in the middle of treatments, or just want to know you're not alone, I want to offer support and encouragement. I believe that by sharing our experiences, we can help others feel seen, heard, and hopeful.

Thank you for being here! I’m so excited to have you join us on this journey. Stay tuned for the next post, where I’ll dive into the start of our fertility journey and the decision to seek professional help. Until then, I hope you’ll find comfort and inspiration in the stories we share here.
