The Day We Found Out
The weekend of August 17th was a pretty chill weekend—we spent time at a farmhouse, had a bonfire, and just enjoyed a laid-back evening. But something unexpected happened. That Friday, I randomly threw up. I didn’t feel sick, which was strange, but I brushed it off. I hadn’t noticed any other symptoms yet, so I didn’t think too much of it.
Still, something inside me told me to wait until August 20th—our engagement anniversary—to take a pregnancy test. I had already bought everything I needed to surprise Colin if it was positive. Deep down, I had always hoped for this moment, but after so many months of disappointment, I wasn’t sure if I’d ever see those two pink lines.

At just 10 days past ovulation, before I had even missed a period, I took the test. My heart raced as I watched the lines appear. It was positive. Positive. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. After so many months of waiting, tracking, hoping, and praying—could this really be happening?
To be absolutely sure, I took a digital test. “Pregnant.”

I will replay that moment forever.
I had dreamed of this day for so long, and now that it was finally here, I wanted to make it special. I set up a cute surprise for Colin, and when I told him, we were both in complete shock. We were overjoyed, but in the back of my mind, I knew we had to proceed with caution. Because of my blocked fallopian tube, we were at a higher risk for an ectopic pregnancy. But in that moment, all we could feel was happiness.
We couldn’t wait to share our news with our families. I immediately ordered cookies and cakes to tell our parents and siblings—our little miracle was finally here, and we wanted to celebrate every second of it.

The First Blood Tests
The next step was calling my doctor to schedule an HCG blood test and an early ultrasound with the fertility clinic. HCG is the hormone produced during pregnancy, and tracking its levels helps confirm how far along you are and whether things are progressing as expected.
The clinic wanted me to come in right away for my first blood draw, followed by a second test two days later to check if my levels were rising normally. HCG should double within 48 hours, which is a key indicator of a healthy pregnancy.
I went to Labcorp for my first test, and we got the results quickly—125. Two days later, my HCG had risen to 307. The clinic reassured me that this was a great sign and that I didn’t need further testing. It was really happening.
This was the best day of our lives.

What's next?
In my next post, I’ll share about our first ultrasound— the results, and what it was like to finally graduate from the fertility clinic and transition to my regular OB. Stay tuned!
